We're coming up on episode 9--what happened with the podcast? Isn't the main point of listening to the podcast to hear other fans' thoughts on each episode as they air? The podcast is great, and I totally love it, but it needs to be more consistent to be effective. Hope a new episode of the podcast turns up soon--the season's going to be over pretty soon here.

Hi its Sarah from Cork

I am afraid to say I was greatly disappointed "Hello Bandit" as it didn't rev up to the action or the suspense I am use too on the show. It's interesting to see Dexter struggle with his new situation, but it's also a bit boring.

At its core, this show is a cat-and-mouse game between Dexter and whoever is in his path. I'm confident it will become that again, mostly thanks to Quinn putting the Kyle Butler pieces together ,although it's a bit of a stretch that the Mitchells provided such disparate sketches, and that only Quinn would think to combine them like that! I just hope its not a cope of the Doakes/Dexter storyline in season 2.

I'm curious where these cult murders are going. Let's hope they tie into a bigger picture later on and aren't just fillers like the Angel and LaGuerta storyline last year!

The only truly good senses where when Masuka was trying to do Dexter's job , they were laugh-out-loud funny, especially with Debra telling Angel that he's really enjoying doing those tasks and wants more!

Note: Did Astor have some eye condition when she was speaking to Dexter about wishing to go to the house. Was strange to watch her blink like that !

That guy who called to comment on EP 18 with all the expletives reminded me of the dude at the water front gas station in the season 5 debut. Kiss your mother with that mouth? The Quin as Doaks redux is tiresome. Hope they're not completely running out of ideas. I was a little tired, but the opener was a bit plodding.

Hello.

I am a new listener and enjoyed this Podcast greatly.

I have only been a fan of Dexter since June when I came upon it on a Friday Night on FX ( Uk) . Since that episode ( Season 3 Episode 3) I have been hooked. I have since gone back and watched Season 1 and 2, and now Season 4 ( I'd watched Season 4 online as I live in Ireland and Uk television are only now on Season 4 , I could not wait when I knew a new season was due this mouth so fast forward by watching online ).

I just saw Season 5 Episode one " My bad " and was impressed and disappointed. I was impressed that this season started from where we left off last season but was Disappointed that Showtime showed so much of the Episode through the Con-Com trailer and the two clips released that I knew what was going on.... except for the last line ( the people who loved her ...... ( voice over ) me too!) . I felt so emotional here as he finally admitted he loved Rita to himself even though us as Viewers knew he did since mid season 3.

I loved the Flashbacks and found them perfect to the show ( like you have said ) to show how both characters have come in the series. But I hated the Masuka line " I always wanted to see her naked but not like this!" when examining Rita body . That was not funny in any way and quite disrespectful even by Masuka's standards. I was expecting Rita's mother to come to the Funeral ( even I know they parted in season two on bad terms ) , you would expect her to attended ( she had two days to get a flight and come!).

Because no knew Characters were really introduced ( I know there will be a nanny ) I have no clue how all the new cast members will fit in on the show . Which makes me so excited to see this Sunday's episode ( Well I watch it on monday mornings because of the time difference )

Thank you for reading my views

I would love to hear a full show about this gutwrenching finale. My initial reaction would be that Trinity set up Dex and planted evidence to incriminate Dex. Dex could only defend himself if he shares his knowledge and experiences w TRinity.

So...I am not remembering. Where are Astor and Cody when Rita was being killed? (Glad she's dead btw, could NOT stand her). But, I can't remember where her kids were....a little help?

Thanks!

Love the podcast. Wish you were more consistent in timing, but life is busy.

I agree with Mister Winter on most points, with just a few variations:

1)The investigation will be blamed on Trinity for attacking someone close to Deborah for payback on cracking his case. There will be some suspicion on Quinn's behalf because he was already suspicious of Dexter in the first place (questioning where he went at lunch, why he was out so late, etc). I also think Angel will find it odd that that Trinity trounced right into the police station and he and Dex shook hands. But if you don't already know the connection, or even that Dex kills folk, then you might just see that as a very brazen act by a psycho killer - one not out of character for what they've discovered about Arthur by this point.

I don't think Deborah is going to suspect Dex for a number of reasons. Remember the speech she gave him when she told him who is mother & brother were? He was the only good thing that happend to her and she didn't know what she'd ever do without him. Well, now this monster broke into her house, found the info on Dexter, went to Dexter's house, killed his wife and left his baby sitting in his mother's blood. That's going to hit Deborah hard. To her, it will all have been her fault.

2) The kids come into question. Cody & Astor may end up spending some extended time w/the grandparents (they are actually their paternal grandparents as mentioned several times - Rita points out that the kids father was the abusive black sheep of the family but his parents are wonderful), but will come back home to Dex - that's their home now and he's more of a dad than they've ever had. I don't think he'll let Harrison out of his site, expect to make runs. He had already decided this was his family, these were his kids and he'd do whatever it took to protect them. Now that he's let Rita down, he's going to fight even harder to protect whats left of his family.

3) Dexter may be irrevocably broken. He had literally just come to terms with being human, not being a monster without emotion and feelings to have it tore from him. He'll feel a pain that he's never known imaginable and will have no way to seek retribution as he had already killed the monster. His jerk of a dad will continue to tell him it's his fault, and in a way it is, he should have killed Arthur when he had the chance instead of waiting and trying to learn from him. Had he killed him then, both Arthur's family and Dexter's would be in a better place than season 4 left them in.

Hi Jeremy,

Good initial recap on "The Getaway."

A few thoughts...

With regard to the investigation, I think that the police are going to assume that Trinity went after Rita because he confused Dexter's residence with Debra's (since both are listed as D. Morgan). If you think about it, this was the whole point of the scene where Trinity went to Dexter's old apartment which would have been a pointless scene, otherwise. Of course, we know otherwise (Trinity went there for the express purpose of killing Rita), but the police don't know this and probably never will.

Anyway, as for next season, here's how I see it playing out...

Debra, who just finally absolved herself of the guilt/shame from Season 1 (being kidnapped by Dexter's brother) is now going to have to deal with a ton of guilt over Rita's death. (As I mentioned above, the police are going to conclude that Trinity went to Dexter's house with the intention of killing her, not Dexter [or Rita]).

Dexter, overcome with grief, is going to go on a blood rampage, throwing "the rules" out the door for at least a short time.

The kids (Harrison included) are going to wind up with Rita's parents. But I'm betting the Dexter will reclaim Harrison by the end of next season.

Some degree of suspicion is going to fall on Dexter next season... Debra, Quinn and Angel all have reasons for being suspicious. Angel saw Dexter with the man later identified as Trinity at the police station. Quinn is quickly shaping up to be the new Doakes, especially now that he has a personal score to settle with Dexter. And Debra has to be wondering (or will at some point wonder) if Rita's death on the heels of the reveal that Dexter and Rudy/Brian were bothers is just a coincidence... or if the reveal was too much for Dexter and he somehow snapped. Plus, everyone was suspicious of Dexter when they found him in Arthur Mitchell's garage right after the police raid. He explained it away, but I'm sure that it will come up again in some fashion.

Hi Jeremy,

Good initial recap on “The Getaway.”

A few thoughts…

With regard to the investigation, I think that the police are going to assume that Trinity went after Rita because he confused Dexter’s residence with Debra’s (since both are listed as D. Morgan). If you think about it, this was the whole point of the scene where Trinity went to Dexter’s old apartment which would have been a pointless scene, otherwise. Of course, we know otherwise (Trinity went there for the express purpose of killing Rita), but the police don’t know this and probably never will.

this episode is full of feelings. The love...dexter don't hide the sentiment of love. He can't. He can't hide his feeling in the situation created in this episode. Dexter is pushed to a face to face with the reality, the true about his life and the truly love with rita. The end is obviously shocking, but it's another gift to dexter's fans. What will happen now? We'll suffer together in this expectation.

And did anybody ever think of Dexter's son being a part of this being that Trinity has to find a new son?

I'm listening to your podcast right now on Season 4 episode 11, and I would like to know why Dexter felt the need to finish off Trinity himself vs. the cops doing it. This in itself spells greed.

If he hadn't set it up for this Stan guy, it would've been more clearer, espescially in the scene where deb questioned the reporter, where she nearly gave up his name, but didn't because they didn't have the right name.

I think the storyline between Dexter and Quinn will come to a head in the season finale. And Quinn might bide his time between what is going to happen (Dexter being the protector)

And no I do not think that it will be the end of Rita. Rita and Dex have to find themselves, and that leaves a lot to be discovered.

Dexter and Deb and Dexter and Quinn have alot to sort out. And I feel that alot will be revealed in this last episode.

As far as Batista and the Lieutient, She may be killed, It makes sense, as far as the Debra Morgan taking over. And it puts in a new twist to how everyone sees Dexter.

And what all will Rita remember? Or Deb for that matter. But what will Quinn remember...hmmm.

All this at the hand of Trinity...Alot to think about.

Keep up with the great podcasts! You Rock!

Great review, but there is no way Trinity is Dexter's father. Dexter's bio dad was confirmed as Jospeh Driscoll in S1E09 "Father Knows Best". Can't wait till next week!

I absolutely love everything you've done here! Keep up the good work!

I sometimes wonder if Trinity did shoot Deb and Lundy, that he has plans (and building the coffin) for Deb, and that Dexter will have to kill Trinity to save his sister, who will then know for certain what's up... Now whether or not Trinity will invite Dexter along for the ride on this I have no clue.... But I wonder.

Have a Marvelous week! Look forward to the next podcast.

Listening now! Thanks for posting. I'm holding out and thinking that if it's not the Vacation Murderer who took out Lundy and shot Deb, than it might have been Quinn. Quinn didn't like "wasting" his time on the Trinity when he wanted to go after the VM.

Hello there, all fans of Dexter. Started listening to your podcast from this season of Dexter. I really enjoy your comments and views on it. I loved season 3 with Jimmy Smits. This season specially the Episode 5 Dirty Harry was particularly brilliant. Dexter chasing Trinity was so well done. I will have to rewatch this episode, as I always seem to pick up some points that I missed in the first viewing. Trinity is soooo very very creepy, sends a chill down your back.
Each character was developed …especially liked Debra and she potrayed her pain quite well.
Look forward to your comments.
